Valerie Marie Smith is a flute recitalist, flute instructor and composer. Ms. Smith is a classically trained flautist from Roosevelt University (Master of Music) and Columbia College of Chicago (Bachelors of Arts). She has performed in various music venues, such as, National Flute Association Conventions (Masterclasses and Flute Orchestras), Roosevelt University (Masterclasses, Chamber Ensembles, Large Ensembles, and Composer Recitals), Roosevelt University Opera Theater (Magic Flute) and Concert Series (DePaul Music Mart, Barcelona Presence Art Gallery, and The Art Institute of Chicago French Music Festival). Ms. Smith has performed before great masterclass flute instructors: Mathieu DuFour (Chicago Symphony), Paul Edmund- Davies (London Symphony Orchestra), Jeffrey Zook (Detroit Symphony Orchestra), George Pope (Akron Symphony Orchestra) and many more. |
Ms. Smith involvement in the music business has expand, when she attended the 2003 Midem International Music Business Conference in Cannes France as an artist representative with Columbia College of Chicago. She represented artists from the Chicagoland Area to obtain licensing for copyrighted music in foreign territories and established relationships with her networks. Ms. Smith enjoys communicating and networking with peers to build business networks. Valerie Smith also has an entertainment company called “Elegant Flute Sounds” connecting the music community to live performance sounds of the flute. (www.elegantflutesounds.com).
This flutist isn’t just a performer; she write original music compositions for flute and other instruments. Currently, Ms. Smith is a member of ASCAP and plans to license her original compositions to networks. In addition, Smith is known to frequently research many different Non-Western music styles to employ in her compositions.
The flute sounds of Valerie Smith are best described as expressive, clear, and soothing. What Ms. Smith enjoys the most is performing before an audience with passion and feeling.
